如果蛋白上有信号表示该蛋白质应该留在内质网，高尔基体就会形成另外一种小囊泡，把蛋白送回到ER。高尔基体就是这样通过阅读蛋白质上的信息把蛋白运送到“收货人”手中。高尔基体物流中心的功能还不止是这些，它还会对运输的货物——蛋白质进行加工，这个加工过程就是把各种寡糖链连接到蛋白上，这个过程称为糖基化，而这种糖基化是蛋白zui终可以执行各种功能的保证。糙面内质网(rough endolasmic reticulum, RER)是多呈排列极为整齐的扁平膜囊状的核糖体和内质网共同构成的复合机能结构，与细胞核的外层膜相连通。糙面内质网的功能是合成蛋白质大分子，并把它从细胞输送出去或在细胞内转运到其他部位。凡蛋白质合成旺盛的细胞，糙面内质网便发达。在神经细胞中，糙面内质网的发达与记忆有关。糙面内质网（ergastolasm），也称为粗面内质网或颗粒型内质网，是指腺细胞和生长中的卵母细胞等的固定材料，在光学显微镜下呈线状、层状，可被碱性染料充分染色的为C．Garnier（）称之为细胞质的部分。后来证明其嗜碱性是由于RNA的存在所决定的。尤其由于电子显微镜的发展，显示该部分富有粗面内质网，并了解到RNA的存在是由内质网上的核糖体决定的。从而肯定了粗面内质网是细胞内蛋白质的生物合成场所这一假想。内质网（ER,Endolasmic Reticulum），细胞质内由膜组成的一系列片状的囊腔和管状的腔，彼此相通形成一个隔离于细胞基质的管道系统，为细胞中的重要细胞器。
